With these children excluded, the overall rate <strong>of</strong> CPS investigation<strong>of</strong> Endangerment St<strong>and</strong>ard maltreatment drops to 35% (compared to 43%, based on allEndangerment St<strong>and</strong>ard children, as given previously).Changes since the NIS–3 in CPS Investigation Rates by the SourceRecognizing Endangerment St<strong>and</strong>ard Maltreatment.Figure 8–14 displays the four sentinel categories where CPS investigationrates evidenced significant changes since the NIS–3—all categories display increases.The investigation rate rose from 23% to 63% for those children recognized as maltreatedby juvenile probation staff. The rate increased from 4% to 33% for maltreated childrenwhom public health agency personnel identified. The investigation rate also increasedgreatly for children seen as maltreated by workers in social services agencies, from 33%to a sizeable 94%.
