<strong>Electoral</strong> Rolls <strong>for</strong> Local Authorities’ Constituencies14. <strong>Electoral</strong> <strong>Registration</strong> Officer <strong>for</strong> every Local Authorities’ Constituency shallmaintain in his office in the prescribed manner and <strong>for</strong>m the <strong>Electoral</strong> Roll <strong>for</strong> thatConstituency corrected up-to-date. The <strong>Commission</strong>, vide its letter no. 322/LC/INST/2010-CC&BE dated 24 th February, 2010 has issued instructions <strong>for</strong> preparation of <strong>Electoral</strong> Rolls<strong>for</strong> Local Authorities’ Constituencies as under :-i) Under Rule 30 (1) of the <strong>Registration</strong> of Electors Ru les, 1960, the <strong>Commission</strong> hasdirected that the electoral rolls of the Local Authorities’ Constituencies is required to bemaintained by the <strong>Electoral</strong> <strong>Registration</strong> Officer of the Local Authorities Constituencyconcerned under Section 27 (2) (c) of the Repr esentation of the People Act 1950. Itshall be prepared and maintained in the following <strong>for</strong>mat :-Name of the Local Authorities Constituency:S.No.Name oftheelectorSex Age Father’s/Husband’s/Mother’s or otherrelation’s nameEducationalstatusName of theLocal Authorityof which he/sheis a Memberii) For this purpose the Chief Executive Officer of the Local Authority while furnishingthe list of members of the Local Authority under section 27(2)(d) of the Representationof People Act, 1950 indicate the educational status of the each member; that is to saywhether the member is able to read names on any papers and write figures 1, 2, 3, etc.iii) The electoral roll shall be prepared in the official language of the State and in English.The <strong>Commission</strong> has further directed that the electoral rolls shall be published by the<strong>Electoral</strong> <strong>Registration</strong> Officer in his office and also in the offices of the LocalAuthorities comprised in the Local Authorities Constituency, immediately invitingclaims and objections by giving a minimum of seven days <strong>for</strong> the purpose. Any claims(in Form 17) and objections received within the time fixed shall be disposed of by theERO within a period of three days and the roll shall be again published afterincorporating the claims and objections accepted within three days thereafter and inany case be<strong>for</strong>e the last date <strong>for</strong> filing of nominations. The provisions of Section 23(3)of RP Act 1950 will also apply in this case, i.e. no addition/deletion/amendment shallbe made in the electoral roll after 3.00 P.M. on the last date <strong>for</strong> filing of nomination.15 The <strong>Commission</strong> further directs <strong>for</strong> the electoral roll of the Local Authorities’Constituencies that :-i) It shall be prepared in as many separate parts as there are Tahsils or Talukas in theConstituency.ii) Each Constituent Local Authority within the Constituency shall be allocated separatepage or pages in the part and the names of the members of that Local Authority shall beentered in that page or those pages. Every page shall be in the <strong>for</strong>m given above.99
