The names of Ovid, Saleius Bassusand Statius have been advocated, of whom the firstlived too early and the others too late to vrrite theLaiis Piso7iis. Resemblances in style and in carefulmetrical technique led Haupt (opusc. I. 391) to arguethat the work was by the pastoral poet CalpurniusSiculus.
