At <strong>the</strong> organizational level, <strong>the</strong> domains are segmented in<strong>to</strong> locally administered<br />

domains and subdomains. These subdomains provide name translation for<br />

<strong>the</strong>mselves and <strong>the</strong> branches below <strong>the</strong>m (see Figure 2.20).<br />

When a domain name request is made for a host outside of <strong>the</strong> locally administered<br />

domain, <strong>the</strong> request is relayed <strong>to</strong> a caching DNS server or <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> server that is<br />

responsible for providing hostnames for <strong>the</strong> requested domain. The DNS service
