uucp UNIX-to-UNIX copy system
IOS allows you to configure the router to use any defined syslog
facility by using the global configuration command :
local-AS#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
local-AS(config)#logging facility local6
local-AS(config)#^Z
local-AS#
After the message's facility level pair has been determined, it checks
the syslog.conf file to see which action it should take. There are five
syslog-defined actions:
• Log to a file (/usr/log/)
• Forward the message to another syslog process on another host
(@hostname or @ip address)
• Write the message to a specified user's operator window.
(user,username)
• Write the message to all users'operator windows (*)
Here is a sample syslog file that uses facility local7, local6, and local5
to collect logging messages for Internet gateway routers, internal
routers, and access servers:
#/etc/syslog.conf
#
#Logging for all Network Gateways
local7.emerg
@logmaster.x2net.net
local7.alert;local7.crit;local7.err *
local7.warning root,help
local7.notice root,netadmin,help
local7.info
/var/log/cisco-gw.info
local7.debug
/var/log/cisco-gw.debug
