changes (user to privileged, for example) operate along the lines of a
command execution which, when successful, provides additional
command access. This can be an important point for people who are
users to the shell model. While shell users normally type to
get to the previous level, in Cisco this ends the EXEC session
completely. You should use , which closes the privileged
EXEC mode.
The default privileged EXEC mode(15) is quite powerful; think of it as
root or the administrator account. It should be password protected
and restricted from general user access. The reason it is so powerful is
because once you are in privileged EXEC, you effectively have
complete control over the router. All router commands are available,
and any router element can be viewed and configuration mode
invoked.
The privileged EXEC command is used to see the status and
configuration of any aspect of the router. Some common uses of
are:
• —Shows information
about router interfaces
• —Shows the router's current
configuration
• —Shows the router's NVRAM stored
configuration
To enter the configuration EXEC mode, use the privileged EXEC command:
Router#configure terminal
