The privileged EXEC command will perform the same task.
The command differs slightly between IOS 11.x and 12.x, reflecting
the context change to memory as a "file system":
IOS 11.3:
Router#erase ?
flash Erase System Flash
startup-config Erase contents of configuration memory
IOS 12.x:
Router#erase ?
flash: Filesystem to be erased
nvram: Filesystem to be erased
startup-config Erase contents of configuration memory
Using with Flash Memory
The [flash:] target is used to represent all flash memory installed on
a router's motherboard and installed in PCMCIA slots (if no
partitioning is used). If you want to see the contents of a specific
PCMCIA flash card, it must be indicated using the slot [slot0:]. You
can copy to or from flash cards using [slot:] as the target. Here are
some examples:
7200router#copy run slot0:
Destination filename [running-config]?
5810 bytes copied in 0.816 secs
