Token Ring PHY Implementations<br />

The PHY-<strong>to</strong>-MAC service interface performs <strong>the</strong> encoding/decoding of <strong>the</strong> MAC<br />

frame in<strong>to</strong> Manchester encoded symbols. The encoded/decoded serial bitstream<br />

operates at a rate of 4MHz or 16MHz depending on <strong>the</strong> ring operating rate. Signal<br />

timing for all stations is derived from <strong>the</strong> active moni<strong>to</strong>r. The ring functions as a<br />

timing loop, which is set by <strong>the</strong> AM. Stations defer <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir upstream neighbor when
