a local username and password account <strong>to</strong> exist on <strong>the</strong> router (see <strong>the</strong><br />

section "IOS Au<strong>the</strong>ntication and Accounting" for more details):<br />

If <strong>the</strong> lines were going <strong>to</strong> be directly attached <strong>to</strong> equipment console<br />

ports instead of dumb terminals, you might have <strong>to</strong> change <strong>the</strong> lines'<br />

operating speed or parity. To configure <strong>the</strong> lines' operational behavior,<br />

use <strong>the</strong> following commands:<br />
