All that is required <strong>to</strong> enable IPX or AppleTalk is a <strong>network</strong> address.<br />

After a <strong>network</strong> address is set, <strong>the</strong> nodes can do <strong>the</strong> rest. From a<br />

practical perspective, however, some additional configuration options<br />

may be required depending on <strong>the</strong> interface type or for performance<br />

reasons. In <strong>the</strong> WidgetCo configuration, some of <strong>the</strong> PC users are<br />

using IPX (because it is faster) <strong>to</strong> access <strong>the</strong> NT servers. In order for<br />

NetBIOS broadcasts <strong>to</strong> be forwarded across all <strong>the</strong> <strong>network</strong> links,<br />

needs <strong>to</strong> be enabled. You might also<br />

find with IPX that SAP and RIP updates can consume <strong>to</strong>o much<br />

bandwidth and need <strong>to</strong> be reduced. Reduction can be accomplished by<br />

using <strong>the</strong> interface configuration EXEC command :
