Mark J. Newcomb is <strong>the</strong> IS operations supervisor for a major<br />

medical labora<strong>to</strong>ry in <strong>the</strong> Pacific Northwest where he is directly<br />

responsible for both data and telephony communications for over 600<br />

remote locations. He is a Cisco Certified Network Professional and a<br />

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer with more than 18 years of<br />

experience in <strong>the</strong> microcomputer industry. His efforts are currently<br />

focused on Frame Relay, ISDN, and Microsoft <strong>network</strong>ing systems. He<br />

also provides freelance consulting <strong>to</strong> numerous independent clients<br />

Ariel Silvers<strong>to</strong>ne has been involved in <strong>the</strong> computer industry for<br />

more than 15 years. He has consulted nationally for Fortune 1000<br />

firms on <strong>the</strong> implementation of management information systems and<br />

<strong>network</strong>ing systems (with emphasis on security). He has designed<br />

and set up hundreds of <strong>network</strong>s over <strong>the</strong> years, including using all<br />

versions of NetWare and Windows NT Server. For five years, he has<br />

been <strong>the</strong> chief technical officer for a computer systems integra<strong>to</strong>r in<br />

Indiana. Although no longer a professional programmer, he is<br />

competent in a variety of computer languages, including both low-<br />

and high-level languages. Ariel is <strong>the</strong> author of two <strong>network</strong>ing books<br />

about routers and connectivity, and has been technical reviewer on<br />

more than 25 books, including titles on Windows NT, NetWare,<br />

<strong>network</strong>ing, Windows 2000, Cisco routers, and firewalls.
