In addition to the Layer 3 address configuration, the interface's framing type and clocking source must be set. An MTU size adjustment option is also available. The POS interface is configured by using the global configuration command . After the interface processor is selected, the remaining configuration commands are POS interface specific subcommands (aside from Layer 3 addressing). The POS interface's default settings are SDH framing, remote clock, and the default OC-3 interface MTU, 4,470 bytes. Therefore, you may only need to perform Layer 3 address configuration: thor(config)#interface pos 1/0 thor(config-if)#ip address 172.16.55.1 255.255.255.252 To configure the POS interface controller to transmit clock information, use the command posi internal-clock. To use STM-1 framing, use the command posi framing-sdh. To adjust the MTU size to reflect the LAN packet media (which is 1,500 in most cases), use mtu 1500.
