VEGETATION LIMITATIONS FOR ANIMAL PRODUCTION
The main limitation of the humid subtropical grasslands is their poor herbage
quality. Although this is well known, and has been the subject of many
papers (Royo Pallarés, 1985; Deregibus, 1988), little progress has been made
in overcoming it. C4 -dominated grasslands, with high temperatures and good
rainfall produce high growth rates , which leads to a dilution of nutrients and
