The challenges associated with the food-processing sector and with<br />

David Natcher’s work on the subsistence economy in<br />
Nunatsiavut shows that it is possible, and helpful, to see the whole<br />
picture of how a local economy works. In Nunatsiavut, this<br />
picture includes land-based activities as well as wage-based<br />
ones. His work also shows that there are important economic,<br />
social and cultural benefits that exist in harvesting<br />
and sharing country food among households. This suggests<br />
that it may be useful for community development plans to<br />
include support for these activities to continue.<br />
One of the main objectives of economic development in<br />
Nunavik is to keep as much money generated by business and development<br />
projects in the region, in Nunavik. The business model highlighted<br />
