Eighth Art Workshops<br />

For eight years in a row <strong>Makivik</strong> has organized art workshops<br />

to boost the skills and exposure of experienced artists and Inuit<br />

interested in producing art. The most recent sessions were held in<br />

Inukjuak from October 28 th to November 11 th , 2009 with 32 Nunavik<br />

participants. About 10 others had planned to attend but could not<br />

for various reasons, including concerns related to the H1N1 flu.<br />

Organized by Sammy Kudluk, lessons were given in carving<br />

and jewelry design, sewing and clothing design, and storybook<br />

Heartfelt congratulations to Pita Aatami who<br />

was inducted into the Aboriginal Business Hall<br />

of Fame on March 31 st during a gala attended<br />

by more than 500 Aboriginal and mainstream<br />

business and community leaders. The award,<br />

initiated in 2004, recognizes the outstanding<br />

achievements of Aboriginal business people.<br />

Besides presiding over <strong>Makivik</strong> Corporation,<br />

Pita also sits on the boards of our most outstanding<br />

subsidiary companies.<br />
