New Hydro-Québec
Employees
In collaboration with the KRG and the
Nunavimmi Pigiursavik Professional
Training Centre in Inukjuak, Hydro-Québec
has hired nine new employees since
February 2009.
Hydro-Québec, working with the
Centre de formation Montage de lignes,
has designed a line workers’ training program
to reinforce the skills of power station
workers and adequately train new recruits.
Three experienced workers employed at
Nunavik power stations were also part of
the group enrolled in the program.
During the first stage of this two-year
training program, the students had to learn
climbing and line installation techniques.
Everyone passed this first part of the program
with flying colours.
The nine new employees will complete
their training on the job at power
stations. Upon arrival in the various northern
villages, the new employees — who
have been trained to operate power stations
and also to install lines — will tackle
the work overload and be able to take
action more quickly to deal with distribution
system issues, particularly during
power outages.

Beatrice Deer
Beatrice Deer’s latest CD, entitled “Beatrice Deer”,
was released on January 25 th . The songs were written
by Beatrice and her husband, Charles Keelan,
except for two from George Okpik and Glen
Collins. Beatrice, who designed the cover of her
album, says it is available in most Nunavik communities,
“because good friends offered to help
sell them for me and I am selling them myself.”
It should also be available on iTunes by now.
