Representing <strong>Makivik</strong> at the Inuit and Cree from North of Quebec:<br />
Territory, Economy, Society and Culture conference were Pita Aatami<br />
and Michael Gordon. Inuit and Cree from other organizations, along<br />
with a delegation including Quebec archaeologists, anthropologists, and<br />
politicians, and international researchers attended the three-day conference<br />
in Angers, France, this past October 20 th to 22 nd . The three days<br />
were devoted to sharing and learning about the situation in Northern<br />
Quebec today, since the signing of the JBNQA.<br />
A number of accompanying activities included an exhibition<br />
of bowhead whale hunting by Avataq, an exhibit on global<br />
warming, traditional songs and music, and the showing of pertinent<br />
videos. Participants also got to visit various facilities in<br />
Angers and to enjoy the French cuisine.<br />
Canadian studies specialist, Jacques Petit, the director of le<br />
Centre d’études et de recherches pour les études canadiennes<br />
d’Angers, which hosted the event, said it took two years of<br />
preparation and Avataq and KSB were among the key supporting<br />
organizers. Jacques says the people in Angers have a great<br />
