Congratulations to all the newly elected Nunavik mayors and their
respective municipal counsellors. For the next three years of their mandate,
the Nunavik Regional Partnership Committee (RPC), consisting of
representatives duly appointed by regional organizations, are committed
to support the municipal councils to trigger positive social change.
More specifically the committee will assist the mayors in providing
a framework and a structure:
• To develop a common vision for Nunavik’s 14 communities;
• To set priorities and determine the resources to be funded with
the support and contribution of all organizations;
• To ensure that Inuit culture, language, history and core values
are the basis for the proposed solutions that are developed with
the mayors; and
• To implement an action plan that addresses the concerns voiced
at the symposium “Leading the Way for Our children” (2005) and
the follow-up of recommendations of the
Quebec Human Rights Commission report
on Nunavik youth.
Local core group agents
A proposal to Ungaluk Program to hire
“local core agents” in the three communities
of Kuujjuaq, Salluit and Inukjuak was submitted
and approved. So far Inukjuak and Salluit
have hired their core group agents (local organization
agents). Following the November 1 st
municipal elections, Kuujjuaq has indicated
that they do would hire their agent as soon as they can provide proper
office space.
The two local agents now hired are collaborating with their mayors
to identify pertinent, realistic and unique local priorities with the
