Nunavik Creations and showing some of the<br />
products. It was a day to introduce the people<br />
of Nunavik to the hospital staff, organized by<br />
the Nunavik Centre of the Montreal General<br />
Hospital. Avataq, Nunavik artists and members<br />
of the regional health board were also<br />
present.<br />
Visitors were very curious about our amauti<br />
and the ivory jewelry. Some also did not know<br />
the difference between “Nunavik” and “Nunavut”<br />
— that Nunavik is in the province of Quebec.<br />
Vickie Okpik said, “I enjoyed showing our<br />
stuff and explaining our products to the curious<br />
people. They do so much for our people<br />
who come down here for hospital and I did it<br />
to give back for the wonderful things they do<br />
for us. I especially like the Montreal General<br />
Hospital because they took care of my mother<br />
well when she was sick. I wanted to take part<br />
in showing our culture, our clothing, and a little<br />
bit about who we are.”<br />
