this past October was “Opportunities in Difficult Times”. Nailing<br />
down the acceptable date for the event and finding adequate<br />

accommodations for the participants were big logistical challenges.<br />
Good public relations. It provided exposure for small businesses and<br />
a chance for the larger businesses and organizations to re-establish<br />
contacts and do further networking. The costs of marketing can be<br />
expensive, so to meet one another in the same place at the same<br />
time is very advantageous during a well-organized trade show.<br />
<strong>Makivik</strong> managed it and was a partner in the trade show and<br />
business conference. The whole objective was to put together a<br />
professionally run show and these obligations were met. Other<br />
partners were KRG and Canada Economic Development. The Baffin<br />
Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Labrador Chamber of<br />
Commerce assisted.<br />
The combination of conferences and trade exhibits made it<br />
a lot more interesting for people to visit, with forums on mining<br />
and energy that were very well attended. There were 32 exhibitors.<br />
Promotional items for distribution were very popular with the students.<br />
It also gave students an idea of what career opportunities<br />
exist, for the older students to focus their education.<br />
Jean-Marc Séguin, technical director of the Nunavik Mineral<br />
Exploration Fund, was the emcee for the conference. He said,<br />
“It wasn't the most comfortable place for me. But as part of the<br />
organizing committee, I enjoyed being involved closely with the<br />
conference speakers and relevant topics discussed. I really think the<br />
different subjects presented were highly important to the Nunavik<br />
community and its on-going, future development.”<br />
