NATIONAL GUIDANCE
PPS1 - “Delivering Sustainable Development” (2005) sets out overarching policies on the
delivery of sustainable development through the operation of the planning system and
contains advice on design considerations.
PPS4: Planning for Sustainable Economic Growth
PPS9 - “Biodiversity and Geological Conservation” (2005) aims to promote sustainable
development, to conserve, enhance and restore the diversity of England’s wildlife and
geology, and to contribute to rural renewal and urban renaissance.
PPS10 - “Planning for Sustainable Waste Management” (2005) aims to promote sustainable
waste management and requires that consideration be given to the design and layout of new
development to secure opportunities for kerbside collection and community recycling without
having an adverse impact upon the street scene.
PPG13 - “Transport” (2001) aims to integrate planning and transport, promote sustainable
forms of development, improve accessibility by public transport, walking and cycling, and
reduce the need to travel, especially by car.
PPS23 - “Planning and Pollution Control” (2004) contains guidance on the consideration of
land, air and water quality issues, the pollution control regime, and the development of
contaminated land.
PPG24 - “Planning and Noise” (1994) provides guidance on the considerations to be taken
into account when determining planning applications for noise sensitive development and
those activities which generate noise.
PPS25 - “Development and Flood Risk” (2006) provides advice on land-use planning and
flooding considerations.
EAST OF ENGLAND PLAN
Policy WM2: Waste Management Targets - Recommends adoption of targets to minimise
waste and provide the basis for implementing the overall aim of recycling, composting and
recovering value from waste.
Policy WM1: Waste Management Objectives - Identifies the overall vision and objectives for
waste management policies.
Policy WM5: Planning for Waste Management - Local policies should identify the additional
capacity required to manage their apportioned wastes.
