10.93 The assessment of significance of effect takes into account measures which have already been
included within the design to avoid or reduce ecological impacts.
10.94 General measures which will be implemented during construction will be formalised through the
preparation of the CEMP. Measures to avoid or reduce impacts on wildlife will include:
� when if lighting is necessary, its use will be directed away from adjacent habitat through the
use of hoods or similar; in particular light spill would be avoided to Middle Drain, and the
Railway Line;
� all trenches, pits, excavations, sewers and manholes will be covered overnight to prevent
animals entering these holes. Where if these cannot be covered (or filled) on a nightly basis,
a plank should be placed into the excavation so that an animal can use this as a means of
escape if necessary; and
� site plans illustrating the locations of ecologically sensitive areas will be included in the site
induction pack and all operatives will sign a briefing sheet to indicate their understanding of
the measures they are expected to adhere to.
