Özlem Er, 1966’da Ankara’da doğdu. Lisans ve yüksek lisans
derecelerini Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi’nden, doktora
derecesini ise Manchester Metropolitan University’den aldı.
1996-2000 yılları arasında Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi,
Endüstri Ürünleri Tasarımı Bölümü’nde öğretim üyesi olarak
çalıştı. 2000 yılından bu yana İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi,
Endüstri Ürünleri Tasarımı Bölümü öğretim üyesi olarak
görev yapıyor. Türkiye’de lisans ve yüksek lisans düzeyinde
tasarım yönetimi eğitimini başlattı ve konu üzerinde bir çok
araştırma çalışması yürüttü. İstanbul Sanayi Odası (İSO)
tarafından yayımlanan Endüstriyel Tasarım Kılavuzu ve
TÜSİAD-Sabancı Üniversitesi Rekabet Forumu tarafından
yayımlanan ‘Tasarım Yönetimi: Tanım, Kapsam ve Uygulama’
kitabı yazarları arasında yer aldı. Temmuz 2011-Temmuz
2012 döneminde İstanbul Kalkınma Ajansı tarafından
desteklenen İTÜ-İSO KOBİ’ler için Tasarım projesini yürüttü.
İTÜ’de Sosyal İnovasyon ve Sürdürülebilirlik İçin Tasarım
(DESIS) Türkiye Laboratuarı’nın kurulmasına öncülük etti.
Made in Şişhane projesi kapsamında ‘Made in Şişhane:
İstanbul, Küçük Ölçekli Üretim ve Tasarım Üzerine’ kitabında
bir bölümü kaleme aldı. Endüstriyel Tasarımcılar Meslek
Kuruluşu yönetim kurullarında görevler üstlendi. Halen
Endüstriyel Tasarımcılar Meslek Kuruluşu İstanbul Şube
Başkanı ve Design Turkey Endüstriyel Tasarım Ödülleri İcra
Kurulu üyesi olarak görev yapıyor.
Özlem Er was born in Ankara in 1966. After completing her
bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Middle East Technical
University, she went on to get a doctorate at the Manchester
Metropolitan University. From 1996 to 2000, she lectured at
the Department of Industrial Design at METU. Since 2000,
she has been teaching in the Department of Industrial
Design at Instanbul Technical University. She contributed to
the establishment of undergraduate and graduate studies
in design management in Turkey, and conducted several
research projects on the subject. She contributed to the
writing of the Industrial Design Manual for the Istanbul
Chamber of Industry (İSO), and the publication entitled
Design Management: Definition, Scope and Implementation
which was published by the TUSIAD-Sabancı University
Competition Forum. For the period from July 2011to July
2012, she managed a design project at Istanbul Technical
University (İTÜ), entitled ‘A Design Project for Small and
Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)’ which was supported
by the Istanbul Development Agency. She pioneered the
establishment of DESIS, the Turkish Laboratory in Design
for Social Innovation and Sustainability at İTÜ. She penned a
section in the publication entitled ‘Made in Şişhane: Istanbul,
On Small-scale Production and Design’ that was within
the scope of the Made in Şişhane Project. She worked in a
number of different positions within the Industrial Designers
Society of Turkey Executive Board of Directors. Today she is
the president of the ETMK Istanbul Branch and is a member
of the Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards Executive
Committee.
