tubules remained constant.
The plasma biotin proportion was negatively correlated with erosions in the heel horn, i. e. as
well at the outside as the inside claws. Parallelly, the horn hardnesses of the soles and the
lateral wall of the back foot correlated positively with the plasma biotin proportion.
The results of this experiment allow the conclusion, that a biotin supplementation to a high
concentration for a longer period of time improves the claw health. The existing feeding re-
commandations for biotin should be reflected, since modern pig races furnish higher mast
results as well as improved reproduction results. It also must be considered that beside the
biotin many further factors take influence on the claw health. Among others, genetic
influences and the holding conditions play an essential role.
