Art. J. All vessels arriving at anv time between the<br />
Lrst day of May, and ihe rirst day of December, from any<br />
Mace in the West Indies, or on the comment ot' America,<br />
between the fifteenth degree of south, and the twenty<br />
fourth of north latitude, snail be subject to a quarantine<br />
of five duvs, even if they do not come within the first or<br />
second article of this section: and if during that period,<br />
any one fall sick of the yellow fever or other infectious<br />
disease, then such vesst:i shall be subject to the quarantine<br />
mentioned in the first article of this section.<br />
Art. 4. All vessels whenever, or from whatever place<br />
arriving, bringing putrid animal or vegetable substances<br />
in sufficient quantities, in the opinion of the health officer,<br />
to create disease, shall be subject to a quarantine of<br />
:en days, alter the said animal or vegetable substances<br />
shall have been destroyed or removed.<br />
Section 2.<br />
Of the duties and obligations of the masters, passenarers, and crews of<br />
vessels, and of pilots in relation to quarantine.<br />
Art. I. Every master of a vessel arriving from sea<br />
bound to Fensacola or St. Augustine, shall cast anchor<br />
opposite the quarantine ground, which shall be designaten<br />
by the board of health, and shall submit to such search<br />
as the health officer shall direct, and his crew shall assist<br />
in unlading, cleansing and purifying such vessel, whenever<br />
i hereon so ordered by the health officer. He, his<br />
officers, crew and passengers, shall, on oath, make true<br />
answers to all such questions put to them, respectively<br />
hv the said health officer, in relation to any of the matters<br />
within the perview of this code, and every person refusing<br />
to answer, shall forfeit one thousand dollars, to the<br />
use of the board of health; and every person knowingly<br />
giving a false answer, when so interrogated on oath, shall<br />
be deemed guilty of perjury, and punished by due course<br />
of law.<br />
Art. 2. No vessel shall proceed to any place above the<br />
quarantine ground, without having the certificate of the<br />
health officer that such vessel has been examined and<br />
suffered to pass, which shall be delivered at the office of<br />
the l>oard of health, within twelve hours after the arrival<br />
of sucli vessel in port, and before the said vessel shall be<br />
suffered to unlade; and the master of any vessel offending<br />
against this article, shall forfeit live hundred dollars; and<br />
the said vessel, together with the passengers, may be sent<br />
down to the quarantine ground, at the discretion of the<br />
board, by warrant, directed to any one of the health<br />
wardens, who shall execute the same.<br />
