14. Be it further enact ed, That, it shall be the duty of<br />

all the justices of the county to attend punctually at the<br />

first term of their respective counties, of every year for<br />

the purposes of laying such levy if necessary and attending<br />

to the general interest of the county, under the penalty<br />

of ten dollars, to be recovered before any justice of<br />

the peace by warrant, one half to go the informer and<br />

the other half towards lessening the county levy.<br />

15. Be it further enacted, Tiiat the clerk of the circuit<br />

court shall be the clerk of the county court, and he shall<br />

keep a seperate record for all the business transacted in<br />

said court—and he shall be entitled to the same fees for<br />

the business performed therein, as for similar servicer<br />

performed in the circuit court.<br />

16. Be it further enacted, That, the said court shall<br />

have power to fine and imprison for contempt of their authority,<br />

provided said fine do not exceed twenty dollars,<br />

nor said imprisonment the term of three days.<br />

17. Be it further enacted, That, if any person or persons<br />

shall be committed by a justice of the peace in any<br />

county where there shall be no jail, ot place of safe keeping,<br />

it shall be the duty of the said justice of the peace,<br />

to direct the sheriff of said county, to deliver such offender<br />

or offenders to the sheriff of the next adjoining county,<br />

wherein a jail or place of safe keeping may be, therein<br />

to be confined and to be dealt with according to law, and<br />

said sheriff shall be authorised to summon a guard for<br />

that purpose.<br />

18. Be it further enacted, That, there shall, till hereaf-<br />

ter otherwise directed, be appointed in the county of St.<br />

Johns, eight justices of the peace, three of whom shall<br />

reside in the city of St. Augustine; and in the county of<br />

Duval eight justices of the peace—In the county of Escambia,<br />

eight justices of the peace, three of whom shall<br />

reside in the city of Pensacola, and for the county of<br />

Jackson eight justices of the peace.<br />

19. Be it further enacted, That, said justices of the<br />

peace shall not hold to bail in any case which does not<br />

exceed the sum of* five dollars.<br />

20. Be it further enacted, That, it shall be the duty of<br />

the sheriff of the county to attend at said county court to<br />

execute the orders and process of said court, and he shall<br />

be entitled to the same fees for services performed therein,<br />

as for similar services performed in the circuit court.<br />
