quarantine is completed, may be seized and sent back by<br />

order of the board of health, or the health officer, and<br />

the master or person having charge of her at t;>e time of<br />

such departure shall forfeit one thousand dollars, to be<br />

sued for, and recovered by the said board.<br />

Art. 4. Every officer, seaman, or passenger, who shall<br />

be liable to perform quarantine by the tenor of this code.<br />

Art. 6. Every person who shall go on board of any<br />

vessel while performing quarantine, without the permission<br />

of the health officer or his assistant, shall forfeit the<br />

Art. 7. Any seaman or officer, refusing to assist in<br />

cleaning the vessel to which he belongs, or to perform<br />

any other duty of his station in relation to said ship,<br />

which shall be ordered by the master under the direction<br />

of the health officer, shall forfeit ten dollars; to be deducted<br />

from his pay, by the master, if so much be due him,<br />

and may be imprisoned three days; and every master of<br />

a vessel refusing to give the order to his men, for any<br />

operation under this code which may be directed by the<br />

health officer, shall forfeit on£ hundred dollars.<br />

Art. 8 If any master of a vessel, arriving from sea,<br />

shall, in order to evade the provisions of this act, land<br />

any passenger or person, before he comes to the quaran-<br />

tine ground, he shall, for every offence, forfeit the sum oi<br />

one thousand dollars; and such passenger or other person,<br />

who shall be so landed and arrived in the city, without<br />

the permit of the health officer, shall forfeit three<br />

hundred dollars, and may be arrested and sent down to<br />

the quarantine ground, if thought necessary by the board<br />

of health.<br />

Art. 9. Every pilot, or any person acting as such,<br />

shall deliver to the master of every vessel he may board,<br />

inward bound, one copy of the printed extracts from this
