Glossary of Terms
command line interface The command line interface, or CLI, is a program
that allows a user to enter keywords as instructions to a computer or device
to perform specific tasks. (The MS-DOS® Command Prompt is an example
of a CLI.) Results are typically outputted as simple text to the user’s
terminal.
default editor The default editor is the editor used to display a working
file or revision, for example, Microsoft Windows Notepad or MKS Toolkit’s
vi for Windows editor.
deferred member A deferred member is a member that is associated with
any deferred operation (add, drop, check in, rename). A deferred member
appears in the sandbox, but the deferred operation is not shown in the
project until the deferred operation is submitted.
delta The set of differences (stored in a history) between one revision and
its immediate ancestor, is known as a delta. Using deltas, the program can
reconstruct the exact contents of any revision without having to store
complete copies. Known also as reverse delta storage, it is the standard RCS
format for archives.
demoting You can demote a revision by changing its promotion state
setting from a higher level to a lower one.
development path A development path is an identifier given to a new
branch of software development. Changes made through the new
development path are kept separate from the main development trunk
unless you choose to merge them later.
drop (a project or sandbox) To drop a project or sandbox means that the
project or sandbox is no longer registered with the Integrity Server. Once a
project or sandbox is dropped, it cannot be accessed with Source Integrity.
However, if the project or sandbox is not deleted and you can import it
again if you want it to be accessible in Source Integrity.
Federated Server Architecture MKS Federated Server Architecture is an
implementation of the Integrity Server structured to serve client requests
through a proxy. The proxy provides access to project members residing on
the Integrity Server by retrieving information from its local cache or, if
changes are detected, directly from the server.
former member A former member is one dropped from the project.
Source Integrity retains the member history for former members as part of
the project. Depending on the options you select when dropping the
member, Source Integrity can also delete the member’s working file and
close any associated change package.
freezing (a member) Freezing a member places it in a state that prevents
changes from being made to the member information that resides in the
project file. For example, you cannot update the member revision or change
the attributes of a frozen member. Freezing is the opposite of thawing a
member.
