. — I have followed Dr. Greville, who has so beautifully illustrated<br />

this and the preceding species, in keeping this Moss distinct from the<br />

preceding ; though Dr. Taylor and myself had expressed a different<br />

opinion in the Muse. Brit.; and indeed the distinguishing marks are<br />

very slight, if they are constant.<br />

Very rare. Moist bogs and peat-holes on Ben Challum and Ben<br />

Lawers, Dr. Greville and Hooker. Fr. .— This is a very beautiful<br />

plant and assuredly quite distinct from H. stramincum, with which<br />

Schwaegrichen has united it as a variety. It is of a dark lurid colour,<br />

with remarkably concave and closely imbricated leaves. Our plants<br />

exactly accord with those from Norway and Lapland.<br />
