and so closely imbricated as to form a sort of bulb at the base of the<br />

<strong>The</strong>re is a stout annidus present in this moss, within which and in an<br />

early stage there exists a membranous horizontal ring, which eventually<br />

splits into 16 short, and very obtuse teeth, becoming erect and afterwards<br />

rcflexed over the mouth of the capsule. In habit, this minute<br />

plant is allied to )V. pusilla and Gymnostomum Icnnc.<br />
