This is a very peculiar plant and like no other European species. Its<br />

leaven are so crowded and so cut into fine capillary interwoven segments<br />

that the whole has almost the texture of sponge. <strong>The</strong> colour is peculiarly<br />

pale and there is no apparent calyptra, at least at the time when the fruit<br />

is in perfection.<br />
