been taken for Pterogoninm filiformc, and Mr. Mackay's specimens in E.<br />

Bot. under the last-mentioned name, are H. catemdatum. <strong>The</strong> present<br />

plant is a genuine Hypnum, having a single filiform process between the<br />

segments of its inner peristome. <strong>The</strong> stems are closely tufted, from one<br />

to two inches in length, rigid. Leaves rather remote, of a dark green<br />

colour, their margins appearing as it were serrated from the papillae on<br />

the surface. In our specimens, the nerve is short, not more than one<br />

fourth of the length of the leaf, whilst in II. catenulatum of Schwaegr.<br />

it is said to disappear beyond the middle.<br />
