forms an extremely dense green stratum, a foot or more in diameter<br />

usually decaying in the middle and leaving there an empty space. Filaments<br />

dichotomous. Peduncles mostly on one side, in length about<br />

two diameters of the filament, bearing two opposite globular vesicles,<br />

with a straight (curled, or often reflexed, Grev.) intermediate process."<br />
