Capsule oblong, approaching to oval, slightly contracted at the<br />

base. This moss agrees well with the specimen of B. Ludwigu in<br />

Funck, and with the figure in Schwaegrichen.<br />

11. B. argenteum, Linn, {silvery Thread-Moss); stems<br />

branched, leaves closely imbricated broadly ovate suddenly and<br />

sharply acuminated sub serrulate very concave, the nerve disappearing<br />

below the point, capsule ovato-pyriform pendulous.<br />

On the ground, and on walls and roofs of houses, very common. Fr.<br />

March.— This plant has, as its name implies, a very silvery hue, the<br />

upper portion of the leaves being scariose and white, while the lower<br />

part is green. <strong>The</strong> acuminated points, especially when dry, are patent<br />

and resemble hairs.<br />

other Brya in the remarkable shape of its leaves, which are almost wholly<br />

composed of nerve, except at the base, and there deeply serrated. <strong>The</strong><br />

caj)sides and setce are a bright orange colour when mature.<br />

short, leaves obovate twisted when dry entire their nerve produced<br />
