Synopsis of the Genera.<br />

I. Thallus adherent, crustaeeous, amorphous.<br />

A. Apothecia wore or less stipitate.<br />

a. Apothecia rounded, fleshy, with the stipes solid (mycince).<br />

Fam. L B.eomyce^e.<br />

1. B/EOMyces. Thallus crustaeeous, spreading, adnate. Apothecia<br />

(mycince) orbicular, convex, capituliform, not bordered,<br />

sessile upon a solid stipes.<br />

b. Apothecia hollow, goblet-shaped (pilidia).<br />

Fam. II. Calicioide;e.<br />

2. Calicium. Thallus crustaeeous, spreading, adnate, uniform.<br />

Apothecia (pilidia) goblet-shaped, more or less stipitate, filled<br />

with a compact pulverulent mass which constitutes the disk and<br />

is plane or subglobose.<br />

B. Apothecia sessile.<br />

a. Apothecia linear ( firellce). Pseudo-Hypoxyla.<br />

3. Arthonia. Thallus crustaeeous, spreading, adnate, uni-<br />

form, cartilagineo-mcinbranacoous. Apothecia innately sessile,<br />

roundish, hut varying in form, sometimes elongated, nearly<br />

plane. nol bordered, black, covered by a subcartilaginous membrane,<br />

within subgelatmous, uniform.<br />

4. Oim (.i:\imia. Thallus crustaeeous, membranaceous or<br />

leprose, spreading, adnate, aniform. Apothecia (Urellce) elongated,<br />

simple or branched, sessile or immersed, the dish narrow<br />

with a proper bordu r and Sometimes with an additional one do-<br />

rived from the thallus.<br />
