28. L. sytiothea, Ach. (minute crowded Lecidea); crust indeterminate<br />

somewhat gelatinous minutely granulose uneven<br />

sooty-brown, apothecia minute dull brownish-black pale within<br />

at length convex, the border narrow evanescent. JBorr.—<br />

On the surface of squared rails of oak and deal at Esher, Surrey, and<br />

Henfield and Boxgrove, Sussex. Mr. Borrcr.— " It requires a practised<br />

eye to distinguish this species from other obscure Lichens, which usually<br />

grow on rails ; but its structure is found, upon examination, to be peculiar.<br />

It has a near affinity to L. idiginosa." Borr.<br />

29. L. simplex, Borr. Mss. (simple black-shielded Lecidea);<br />

crust olive thin smooth scattered soon disappearing, apothecia<br />

scattered or crowded olive-black with a thick elevated<br />

blackish border at length rugged and contorted. Sm,—Lichen<br />

On slate and sandstone rocks, in various parts of Great Britain. Sm.<br />

30. L. immersa, Ach. (sunken Lecidea); crust spreading thin<br />

subcontinuous whitish, apothecia plano-convex immersed in the<br />

stone bordered black, the disk subpruinose blackish-red when<br />

moist, at length rather convex whitish within. Ach. Syn. p. 27.<br />

—Lichen immersus, With.—E. Bot. t. 193.<br />

On calcareous rocks.— In general appearance, this Lichen is vcrv<br />

closely allied to Ferrucaria Schraderi; but the apothecia arc those of a<br />

Lecidea.<br />
