radiating- fleshy, segments repeatedly forked fan-shaped crenate<br />

convex above concave beneath, apothecia prominent at length<br />

blackish and flat. E. Bot. t. 2582.<br />

On walls and rocks, Killarney, Ireland, abundant, Sir T. Gage. Westmoreland,<br />

Sir J. E. Smith.<br />

13. C. margindle, (marginal Collema); thallus imbricated<br />

olive-black, its lobes linear parallel zigzag channelled crisped<br />

crenate branched smooth, apothecia marginal dark reddish-<br />

brown with an entire border.<br />

the thallus are often obliterated by the exceedingly numerous apothecia.<br />

thick black-green with elevated intestiniform convolutions.<br />

On rocks near the sea, Sussex, JDillenius. On rocks and stones,<br />

Dickson.— Nothing seems to be known of this by any living Botanist.<br />

It is probably a marine production and far removed from any Lichen.<br />

16. C. cretdceum, Ach. (Chalk Collema); thallus minute<br />

lobed simple stellated dark-olive bearing a central solitary elevated<br />

brownish flesh-coloured apothecium with a paler elevated<br />

entire border. Sm Ach. Syn. p. 328 Lick, cretaceus, E. Bot.<br />

t. 738.<br />

on chalk and on the white coating of flint-stones, Smith.—<br />

This appears to be a young state of some other species, probably of C.<br />

tcnuissimum.<br />

erect greenish-brown its segments thin linear many-lobed somewhat<br />

palmate revolute, apothecia scattered reddish. Sm.—<br />
