of fructification on this very variable plant, Mrs. Griffiths finds capsular<br />

receptacles, and Miss Cutler, saucer-shaped receptacles, filled with<br />

" numerous linear, simple, or divided bodies, vertically arranged, appar-<br />

ently composed of very short filaments surrounding a longitudinal axis,<br />

the whole terminated by a number of round pellucid lobes." <strong>The</strong> species<br />

is from one to many inches in length.<br />
