tification ; roundish-ovate, pear-shaped or club-shaped seeds<br />

enveloped in a pellucid case, covering the surface, or scattered,<br />

or forming minute spots or transverse lines. <strong>The</strong> seeds in most<br />

cases are produced beneath the epidermis, through which they burst<br />

and become prominent. Grev.<br />

13. Chorda. Frond simple, filiform, cylindrical, with an<br />

interrupted cavity. Foot naked, scutate. 'Fructification ,• ex-<br />

ternal continuous masses of pear-shaped seeds, fixed by their<br />

16. Striarta. Frond filiform, tubular, continuous, mem-<br />

branaceous, branched. Root naked and scutate. Fructification ;<br />

groupes of roundish seeds, forming- transverse lines. Grev.<br />

17. Dictvosiphon. Frond filiform, tubular, continuous,<br />

branched. Foot minutely scutate, naked. Fructification<br />

ovate, scattered seeds, lying beneath the epidermis. Grev.<br />

18. Dictvuta. Frond flat, highly reticulated, membra-<br />

naceous, diehotomous or irregularly cleft ( palmato-ffohelliform<br />

in J), o/oiiuirid). Foot a mass of woolly filaments. Fructification<br />

composed of scattered, or variously aggregated, Bomewhat<br />

prominent seeds, on both surfaces of the frond. Grev,<br />
