RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The major problem was how to approach women and stimulate their
imagination to make them believe that with the loans available from the
SHG, they could think of something else other than goats, cows and buffaloes
as their assets. The area selected was Osmanabad district, which is
a dryland area and figures prominently on the map of the EGS. Moreover,
I was visiting the district and the rural campus of the Tata Institute of
Social Sciences as part of my job. The funds allotted were very modest.
Earlier, I had planned an elaborate and scientific design such as the
collection of data on wasteland in nine talukas of Osmanabad district
