Thimmasandra (Tumkur district), Hakki-pikki (Kolar district), Honavalli<br />

(Hassan district) and CB Ghatta (Kolar), more than 20 per cent of women<br />

have land in their names. In Poolakuntahalli village, Kolar district, less<br />

than 2 per cent of women have land in their names. In Tumkur district,<br />

while 35 per cent of women in Thimmasandra village own land, only<br />

3 per cent do so in TN Halli. Women’s landownership is better in Hakkipikki,<br />

a small village inhabited by the Hakki-pikki tribe.<br />

Participation of Women in Land-Related Decisions<br />

The choice of crops depends on the suitability of the soil and the availability<br />

of irrigation. Within the feasible choices, what is to be grown is an<br />

important decision that will influence the food security of the family.
