Their primary role is to enhance the leadership qualities of women, and<br />

raise awareness on a number of social and economic issues. They also help<br />

group members in the functioning of SHGs such as enhancing awareness<br />

of rules and regulations, savings and credit and process of inter-loaning.<br />

Their presence has helped the SHGs to get right in<strong>for</strong>mation on the documents<br />

required to seek approval from the higher echelons of the government.<br />

The SHGs have also learnt about methods of documentation such<br />

as writing the minutes of the gram sabha, and planning and costing of<br />

public works.
