household decisions, and those who are not participating are not taking
part in any decisions. The results of the regression analysis that attempts to
quantify the correlates of women’s participation in decision-making in
land-related and household-related activities are presented in Table 12.7.

The results show that a woman’s education and earnings from outside
are influential factors in her participation in decision-making. Owning
land is not a significant variable. On the other hand, women who are literate
and who work outside participate more in decisions relating to both
land and household. Age is another important factor which has a positive
impact. The results indicate that older women are consulted more than
younger women in all matters.
CONCLUSIONS
Women’s participation in decision-making has been studied by several
researchers, and attempts were also made to characterise the factors responsible
for it. The main contribution of this chapter is that it tries to
understand whether the ownership of land has any influence on women’s
participation in decision-making at both the farm level and in household
management. This variable was not considered by earlier researchers. This
gains significance in the context of the property registration concessions
extended to women in the 2005–06 central budget. In this chapter, my
