Common Names<br />
Hog Badger (English); Sungure Bhalu (Nepali)<br />
Species Description<br />
Coat is a uniform grizzled-grey in contrast to the<br />
Honey Badger’s prominant black and white<br />
colouration. <strong>The</strong> white face has two dark stripes<br />
running from the small white ears to the muzzle.<br />
Pink snout-like nose. <strong>The</strong> legs and head are darker<br />
than the rest <strong>of</strong> the body being grey-black, with<br />
white claws.<br />
Species Ecology<br />
Very little is known about the ecology and life<br />
history traits <strong>of</strong> the Hog Badger. Although it is<br />
known that the species occurs in forests and scrub<br />
forests and is an omnivorous species feeding on<br />
plants and small animals.<br />
<strong>The</strong> gestation period <strong>of</strong> this species is approximately<br />
one and a half months and has been known to<br />
produce up to four young.<br />

<strong>National</strong> Distribution<br />
This species has been recorded within Shey-Phoksundo<br />
<strong>National</strong> Park and the western sub region<br />
<strong>of</strong> the highlands, and has also been caught on a<br />
camera trap in Bardia <strong>National</strong> Park.<br />
Distribution outside Nepal<br />
Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR,<br />
Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand, Viet Nam.<br />
