Species Description<br />
Top <strong>of</strong> body dark to red-brown, grizzled with hairs<br />
white-tipped and white at the bottom. Parachute<br />
evidently darker than the sides, mostly black.<br />
Species Ecology<br />
<strong>The</strong> Hairy-footed Flying Squirrel may be confined to<br />
forested areas. <strong>The</strong> main sources <strong>of</strong> food are leaves,<br />
fruits, nuts, other plant material and insects.<br />

This species occurs from a single location within<br />
Rara <strong>National</strong> Park, one <strong>of</strong> the smallest protected<br />
areas having an area <strong>of</strong> only 106 km 2 . Previously<br />
recorded in Chitwan <strong>National</strong> Park.<br />
Distribution outside Nepal<br />
Bhutan, China, India, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Taiwan<br />
Province <strong>of</strong> China, Thailand, Viet Nam.<br />
Main Threats<br />
• Habitat loss.<br />
• Forest fires.<br />
