Species Description<br />

Large bat species with s<strong>of</strong>t dense and relatively<br />

long pelage. It is dark brown above, although the<br />

extreme tips <strong>of</strong> some hairs are pale grey giving<br />

a slightly grizzled effect. <strong>The</strong> ventral surface is<br />

also dark, only slightly paler than the back. <strong>The</strong><br />

membranes, ears and naked parts <strong>of</strong> the face are<br />

a uniform black-brown. <strong>The</strong> baculum is broad,<br />

proximally widened and ventrally deeply fluted,<br />

with no distal expansion.<br />

Species Ecology<br />

<strong>The</strong> Chocolate Pipistrelle occurs near human<br />

settlements, in ro<strong>of</strong>s <strong>of</strong> buildings and cracks and<br />

hollows in trees. It feeds on small insects.<br />
