2 FONIX 8000 Hearing Aid Test System
1.1 History
The following is a brief history of the major changes and updates in the 8000
Hearing Aid Test System.
• December 2009: Initial release (v2.00).
• December 2010: Added Real-ear measurements (v2.10)
• January 2012: Added ISTS screen (v2.20).
• September 2012: Added pre-recorded signals in visible speech screen (v2.30)
1.2 Basic Test Functions
The basic 8000 can perform the following coupler tests:
• Pure-tone signal measurements
• Composite and Digital Speech signal measurements
• ISTS: International Speech Test Signal according to IEC 60118-15
• Phase measures for binaural hearing aid pairs
• Group delay (processing delay) measurement of digital hearing aids
• Battery Current as a function of amplitude and frequency
• I/O Curves
• Attack and Release
• Choice of IEC 60118-7:1994/2005, ANSI S3.22-2003/96/87/92, or JIS automated
test sequences
An additional function that comes standard with the 8000 is RS232 communication
with an external personal computer. This allows remote operation of the analyzer from
the computer, and lets you save test results onto your computer’s hard drive. Firmware
upgrades to the 8000 Test System can also be performed though the computer.
1.3 Options
The 8000 test system has the following software (and hardware) options available:
ANSI Option
The ANSI Option gives the user access to the ANSI 03, ANSI 96, ANSI 87, and
ANSI 92 test sequences. These perform measurements according to the ANSI S3.22
2003, ANSI S3.22 1996, ANSI S3.22-1987, and ANSI S3.42-1992 standards, respectively.
This option also includes the Telewand, which is used for performing ANSI 96/03
telecoil measurements.
IEC Option
The IEC Option gives the user access to the IEC 94 and IEC 05 automated test
sequences. These sequences are performed in accordance with the IEC 60118-7:
1994 and 2005 standards, respectively.
