The FONIX Keyboard App
The FONIX 8000 Hearing Aid Test System can be controlled wirelessly from
an Android tablet using the FONIX keyboard app. When the Android Tablet
Package is purchased, this app is pre-installed on the tablet. However, you can
also install the FONIX keyboard app on any Android tablet with Bluetooth ®
technology. You will need the wireless dongle that you can purchase from the
Frye factory. The FONIX Keyboard App can be purchased from the Android
Marketplace.
H.1 Configuring the FONIX Keyboard App
1. Make sure the wireless dongle is installed on the FONIX 8000.
2. Turn on your Android tablet or phone.
3. Select “Settings.”
4. Select “Wireless and network.”
5. Select “Bluetooth settings.”
6. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the tablet.
7. Select “Scan devices.”
8. Look for a Bluetooth device with the name “Fonix-8000-” and the serial
number of your 8000. Select that device.
9. Type “1234” into the “Enter PIN” to Pair with box. Press OK. The FONIX
keyboard should now be configured correctly.
H.2 Running the Android FONIX Keyboard App
1. Select the “Fonix Remote Keyboard” app icon on the Android device.
2. Press the Android Menu key (NOT the [MENU] key on the FONIX Android
keyboard, but the standard Android menu key that is used to change settings
on many different Android apps) and select “Connect a device”.
3. Select your FONIX 8000 device. In the upper right corner of the keyboard
application, you should get a message confirming the connection.
4. Press an 8000 key on the tablet and verify the FONIX 8000 responds
accordingly. You can now run your FONIX 8000 from the Android app.
