Coupler Directional Testing 131 6.3.2 Testing Directional ITEs The ITE Rotating Shaft, shown in Figure 6.3.2A, is used for positioning directional ITE hearing aids. 1. If already in place, firmly grip the rotating shaft and pull it straight up out of 8120 Polar Plot chamber. (You can also position the hearing aid with the rotating shaft in place, if desired.) 2. Place a fresh battery in the hearing aid and attach it to the coupler with blue adhesive putty. (We do not recommend using a battery pill for measurements in the Coupler Directional screen.) 3. Attach the magnetic strip on the coupler to the magnetic side of the ITE rotating shaft. The faceplate of the hearing aid should be positioned in a horizontal plane perpendicular to the vertical surface of the shaft. Use more adhesive putty and rotate the coupler if necessary. Insert the coupler microphone, turn on the hearing aid, and set it for directional testing. 5. Insert the rotating post into the 8120 Polar Plot Chamber. Just slide the tapered end into the small hole at the bottom of the chamber cavity and apply pressure until the post snaps into place. Check to see that the measurement microphone has not been dislodged from the HA-1 coupler.
