5.3.5. The difference in bi<strong>of</strong>ilm density formed over 48 and 168 hours<br />

Table 5.7 displays the difference between the mean OD 590 <strong>of</strong> measured<br />

bi<strong>of</strong>ilm formed after 48 and 168 hours. The difference was calculated<br />

based on the mean OD 590 (<strong>of</strong> 9 observations <strong>of</strong> the density <strong>of</strong> bi<strong>of</strong>ilm for<br />

each strain) as detailed in Table 5.3 and 5.5. The large variation in repeated<br />

observations was previously discussed (5.3.3 and 5.3.4).<br />

As demonstrated in Table 5.7 in most instances, the density <strong>of</strong> bi<strong>of</strong>ilm<br />

formed at room temperature (22°C) did not increase over the extended<br />

period <strong>of</strong> time. In most cases the mean density was marginally less<br />

(difference in OD 590
